2006 Plateau Conference

“The Palúus: Honoring A People and Their Land”

[Nu’nim Wa’tish’wa] “This Is Our Land”

October 4–6, 2006
Washington State University
Pullman, Washington

The Plateau Center for American Indian Studies and the College of Liberal Arts at Washington State University invite elders, tribal leaders, tribal members, scholars, students, researchers, researchers with tribal collaborators, educators, health and other professionals, and interested community members to participate in the 2006 Plateau Conference, "The Palúus: Honoring A People and Their Land."

The 2006 Plateau Conference will explore the social, political, educational, health, and economic status of the Plateau region as well as the preservation of language, culture, history, and natural resources of the Plateau people. Special emphasis at this conference will focus on the historical and contemporary issues of the Palúus people. Review of proposals for papers, individual or panel presentations, performances, art and project exhibitions/exhibits, and poster sessions that relate to the above topics will be ongoing until the program is filled. Early submission proposals will receive priority consideration. Presenters will be notified immediately following proposal acceptance by the planning committee. Performances, exhibits/exhibitions, and poster presentations will be coordinated individually with conference organizers. Proposals will be accepted until September 15, 2006.

Workshop sessions will be 1.5 hours each and grouped thematically. Individual presentations in each session should be no more than 20 minutes long to allow for audience participation following the discussion. To accommodate as many proposals as possible, 3–4 presenters may be combined in each session. If you have a topic in mind and would be interested in organizing a workshop session, please let us know. Conference organizers will combine all other proposals unless otherwise noted.

Abstracts, which will be posted on the Web site and printed in the conference program, will be limited to 100 words. Complete information for submitting proposals may be found at the Plateau Conference Web site at http://libarts.wsu.edu/plateauconference/.
