Department of Philosophy

Studying Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy offers course work in all major areas of philosophy, including the history of philosophy, ethics, logic, philosophy of religion, philosophy of science, Asian philosophies, metaphysics, and a series of courses in "applied" philosophy including, among others, biomedical ethics, business ethics, and environmental ethics.

A choice of 2 majors is available at the bachelor's degree level: the traditional philosophy major and the philosophy/pre-law major, which requires less history of philosophy but incorporates more ethics, more writing, and a foundation in political science.

In addition, students may complete a minor in philosophy tailored to their particular interests, or a minor in ethics.
