Douglas Epperson

Dean of the College

Dr. Douglas Epperson joined the College of Liberal Arts as dean in February 2009.

Dr. Epperson received his Ph.D. in psychology from Ohio State University after earning an M.S. in educational psychology and a B.S. in philosophy from the University of Utah.

Before coming to WSU, he served as associate dean for administration for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University from 2003 to 2009. Previous administrative experience at ISU included appointments as interim chair of the Department of Psychology (1996–99), interim director of the Office of Pre-collegiate Programs for Talented and Gifted, and director of the doctoral program in counseling psychology program.

Dr. Epperson’s primary research focuses on issues related to the reliable and accurate assessment of risk for future offenses by sex offenders. He is the lead author of the Minnesota Sex Offender Screening Tool—Revised, one of the three most commonly used actuarial risk-assessment tools for adult, male sex offenders over the last 10 years. He also recently developed and validated a similar tool for juvenile, male sexual offenders, the Juvenile Sexual Offense Recidivism Risk Assessment Tool-II.
